of the bullets came very near the Police, two narrawly missing one of the Indian constables. The Chinese soldiers were invisible to the Police, having concealed themselves amongst the thick undergrowth. They had evidently posted themselves there anticipating that Lance Bergeant Knowles would proceed that way in an effort to intercept the Stribers ascert at Lin Yu Hang Gap.

Lance Sergeant Knowles, realising that he was hopelessly outnumbered, withdrew his men and returned to station. He did not enter British Sa Tau Kok and cannot say what is the extent of the raid on the Tuen Tai Tsan. The shep has been abandoned by the soner and his fokis. The contents of the shop, irrespective of pigs, is valued at $5,000. The value of the pige seized in the present raid, together with those previously seized, total $2,000, making the total value of property seized or in the hand of the Strikers, $7,000.

It is impossible for Lance Sergeant Knowles, with the mall force of Pelise at his disposal, to cope with the situation. The Strikers are quartered in a house, loopholed and commanding the appreaches to Sha Tau Kok, and for the Police to attempt any action is only to court disaster. There are at least 26 armed Strikers in Sha Tau Kok, augmented by some 50 or more soldiers, all of whom continue to violate British Territory and to flout at our authority.
